Young Business Achievement Awards 2011

Application

The Young Business Achievement Awards is an initiative of the Townsville Chamber of Commerce Young Chamber committee. The Awards, in its 14th years, recognise young Townsville professionals for their vision of the future and their ability to deliver on their vision. There are two categories to enter:

The Townsville Business Person of the Year category

A professional aged 35 years or younger as of 31 December 2011; and has owned or operated his/her own business for a minimum of two years, in Townsville or surrounding region.

Your application for Business Person of the Year should include

  1.  A 2 minute video where you introduce yourself and your business
  2. A business plan which includes, but not limited to
    1. Your business vision, mission and values
    2. Your business current situation, including your audited financial statement for the past two years
    3. Your goals over the next 2 to 3 years
    4. You business plan to achieve those goals
    (A plan can be a Words document, a PowerPoint, a video, etc. Plans must be brief and to the point. All information in your presentation will be considered NOT commercial in confidence)
  3. Anything else you would like the panel to know on why you should be the Business Person of 2011: your achievements, your community involvement, your demonstration of leadership, etc
    (This section is open. Again, please be creative, brief and to the point).

Townsville Corporate Employee of the Year category

A professional aged 35 years or younger as of 31 December 2011; and has been employed in the corporate sector for a minimum of two years, in Townsville or surrounding region.

Your application for Corporate Person of the Year should include

  1. A 2 minute video where you introduce yourself and the company you work for
  2. A description of the job of your dreams and how you will achieve this. Your plan is to include, but is not to be limited to
    1. Your professional vision, mission and values
    2. Your current role, including your resume
    3. Evidence of your work performance, for example you performance review for the past two years, letters of reference from current and past employers, etc.
    4. Your goals over the next 2 to 3 years toward the job of your dreams
    5. Your plan to achieve those goals
    (A plan can be a Words document, a PowerPoint, a video, etc. Plans must be brief and to the point. All information in your presentation will be considered NOT commercial in confidence)
  3. Anything else you would like the panel to know on why you should be the Corporate Person of 2011: your achievements, your community involvement, your demonstration of leadership, etc

(This section is open. Again, please be creative, brief and to the point).

Terms and Conditions

Selection Criteria

To be short listed, an application must

  1. Burn your video and other application documents onto a CD
  2. Deliver to the Chamber office
    Ground Floor, next to the Northtown Medical Centre, 280 Flinders Street, Townsville; OR mailed to PO Box 1114, Townsville QLD 4810
  3. Be received no later than midnight, Monday 2 May 2011
  4. Respond to all criteria
  5. Be creative in content and format
  6. Demonstrate the candidate’s
    1.  vision;
    2. capability to deliver on his/her vision;
    3. understanding of issues relative to his/her field; and
    4. understanding of best practice in his/her field.

Applications will be judged on the candidates’ demonstration of creativity, understanding and capability. The technical quality of the application is a secondary consideration for judging.

Selection Process

All applications will be reviewed to confirm their eligibility.
A panel of three judges will review all eligible applications and short list finalists.
Unsuccessful and ineligible applicants will be notified in writing.
Finalists will be called to a selection interview the week starting 23 May at date to be confirmed.
Finalist will be invited to attend the Awards at their own expense on Friday 10 June 2011 at Jupiter

Launch of Awards 2011, nomination form available Thursday 16 February 2011
Close of nomination period 5pm, Friday 25 March 2011
Close of application period midnight, Monday 2 May 2011
Finalists contacted week starting Monday 16 May 2011
Finalists interviewed week starting Monday 23 May 2011
Winners announced Friday 10 June 2011
