We are heartened by the stage 3 easing of restrictions from today with all businesses now able to reopen, as we all work towards QLD borders reopening on 10th July.
However, it is important to see how the roadmap is being practically applied at a grassroots level and the reality we are hearing from members today is one of confusion and concern especially in the hospitality industry where stage 3 restrictions are more prohibitive than stage 2.
When implementing 4sqm rule for businesses over 200sqm (specifically 201sqm -450sqm), some establishments have had to reduce their capacity.
With groups up to 100 people now able to gather in private residences without a COVID safe plan, social distancing, hand-washing facilities or minimum bathroom requirements – it is a double standard.
These are businesses that are not viable even with the Jobseeker grant in place, we need to help businesses to ensure that they are viable.
We believe this is an honest oversight and an easy modification to be made. As the voice of our members we fully support a request for a modification to the current ruling to simply say 1 person per 2sqm for businesses with a COVID Safe Plan in place, and will continue to advocate on their behalf.
