The Townsville Hospital
Master planning an integrated Health & Knowledge Precinct
The Townsville Hospital & Health Service have recently completed their Townsville Hospital Master Plan, which will see the capacity of the hospital grow by close to 70%. A key feature of the master plan is the integration of the hospital site with the James Cook University site, to create a more formalised and collaborative Health and Knowledge Precinct.
The Vision for the precinct has evolved over many years and is now strongly focussed on placing Townsville at the heart of tropical health, research and innovation. The integrated master plan seeks to create a community dedicated to helping the world access, understand and benefit from breakthroughs and solutions in health and tropical science.
The formalisation of the Health and Knowledge Precinct is expected to generate a substantial ‘new economy’ for Townsville and the region, through new infrastructure, private investment, innovation and entrepreneurial start-ups, jobs growth and the compounding benefit of the financial investment to the broader economy.
