New Horizons Program – Empowering Skilled Women
Supporting Women to Re-Enter the Workforce
We are calling for expressions of interest for our New Horizons Program, a dedicated initiative designed to help skilled women in our region re-enter the workforce or transition into new career opportunities.
Funded through the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, New Horizons provides tailored support to women looking to:
-
Update their skills
-
Boost their confidence
-
Connect with potential employers
This six-week program delivered hybrid face to face with online and in person group options and also 1 on 1 session at no cost to the participant. It is aimed at skilled women who are currently underemployed, on a career break, or facing barriers to workforce participation.
Why New Horizons?
Townsville Chamber of Commerce President Miranda Mears highlights the program’s importance in addressing the region’s workforce challenges.
"The biggest challenge for our members right now is finding and retaining skilled workers. We know there are talented women in our community who aren’t working to their full capacity. This program will help them upskill, gain confidence, and connect with local businesses looking for skilled employees."
Townsville Chamber of Commerce CEO Heidi Turner adds that launching the program on International Women’s Day underscores its significance.
"International Women's Day is about celebrating achievements, but also about taking action. The New Horizons Program provides real opportunities for women while tackling one of the biggest issues facing our business community—workforce shortages."
