Chamber Advocates for Townsville Small Business
Posted: 4 November 2026
Townsville Chamber President Kevin Booth and CEO Emma Peters recently met with David Sinclair, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business, to discuss issues impacting local small and family businesses.
The meeting focused on improving awareness of the wide range of support available through the Department, while also highlighting key challenges facing the Townsville business community, including rising costs and increasing regulatory pressures.
A key advocacy priority raised by the Chamber was the impact of stamp duty on insurance premiums, particularly for North Queensland businesses already facing some of the highest insurance costs in the country. The Chamber called for consideration of reforms that would help reduce costs and improve business affordability.
The Townsville Chamber values the opportunity to work collaboratively with government and will continue advocating for practical solutions that support the growth and resilience of local businesses.
