Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Townsville Chamber of Commerce?
The Townsville Chamber is the peak voice for business in Townsville: connecting, supporting and advocating for local businesses. We are truly independent and apolitical, being fully funded by our members.
Why should I join the Townsville Chamber?
Membership helps you build connections, raise your business profile, stay informed and have a stronger voice on issues affecting business.
Who can join?
Businesses of all sizes, sole traders, startups, not-for-profits and professionals are welcome to join. We don’t have any limits on how many members from a particular sector can join.
What does the Chamber do for Members?
Chamber is the only independent and entirely member funded advocacy organisation in Townsville. We operate under three pillars: Connect (which means we hold events where Members can connect with one another and we cross refer across the broader Chamber network). Our second pillar is Inform (which means we keep our members informed of important news they need to know including grants, legislation, events etc). The third pillar is Be Heard which means Chamber is advocating for positive change for our members. The more members we have, the louder voice we have at advocacy at all three levels of government. There are a myriad of other benefits which can be explored here: Membership | Townsville Chamber
When does the membership year start and finish?
Membership of Townsville Chamber starts the day a member self-registers through our website: Membership | Townsville Chamber or the day the friendly Chamber Team sign you up in our system for 364 days.
Does everyone pay the same or are there different levels of membership?
There are different levels of membership depending on what the member would like to achieve from being a part of the Chamber and the size and complexity of their business. Gold Members have the highest fees but also have the most benefits in terms of discounts and the ability to be involved in meetings with politicians. Silver and Bronze Members have excellent benefits too and are more suited to smaller companies. Check out the membership levels and benefits here: Membership | Townsville Chamber
How long has the Chamber been established?
The Townsville Chamber of Commerce was established in 1882 (yes 1882 not 1992!) which means we have been supporting the business community here in Townsville for nearly 145 years. Townsville Chamber was the second Chamber established in Queensland (after Brisbane).
Who runs the Chamber?
The Chamber’s day-to-day operations are managed by a full-time CEO, supported by part-time membership and marketing officers. The Chamber also has a volunteer board to whom the management team report. Check out the Our Team section of our website to explore who sits on our board: Our Team | Townsville Chamber
